An exciting new year of Service Learning!!!

There are so many exciting outreaches that Our Lady of Mercy students will volunteer for this year. For many years we have made connections with the elderly at The Fairport Baptist Home and The Legacy. At Mary's Place, we will help the refugee children again with their homework. Once a month on Saturdays, we will wake up bright and early and make breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House for the families whose children are receiving specialized medical care at the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong. We will continue to help children with Autism through the Exploring Sensations program through AutismUp. The Circle of Mercy has a team again this year at the Making Strides against Breast Cancer. Last year we raised over $2000 to help with Breast Cancer research. CHECK OUT THE CALENDAR TAB FOR THIS YEAR'S SCHEDULE!!!

Please let Mrs. Randazzese know if you have ideas of places to volunteer. Let's work together to have Mercy students help out.

If you are new to Passport, know that you are welcome to volunteer at anytime. Whatever fits into your personal or family schedule, Passport is ready to welcome you.

Please fill out the permission & transportation form located on the FORMS tab of this website.

"Spread the Word to End the Word"

During the day on Wednesday, March 5th, everyone is invited to take an online pledge for the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign.  The word "retard(ed)" is an exclusive, derogatory, and offensive word to refer to people with intellectual disabilities.  This campaign encourages people to stop using that word.  iPads will be available outside the cafeteria for you to take 10 seconds and make an online pledge in support of this.  Learn more by reading the posters around school.  The website is also identified on Passport’s Green Monthly flyer that were given to students in homeroom Monday morning. Tom Golisano is spearheading Rochester’s support of this for the 3rd year in a row, Golisano Foundation Site ,  Tom Golisano's video

Successful Alternative February Break Service Trip to Nazareth Farm

Juniors - Emma Broderick, Gabi LoVerde, Ruth Marren, Mary Stephenson, Maureen Zhu and chaperones, Mrs. Broderick and Mrs. Randazzese travelled 7 hours to the West Virginian Appalachian mountains for the entire February Break.  Nazareth Farm is centered in FOUR cornerstones - service, prayer, simplicity, and community.  During the week, we shared our service by helping build wheelchair ramps to those community residents in need.  We also shared prayer with others from another another high school, we lived simply by lessening our water usage and making our own food.  Click on the pictures tab to see more pics!

Alternative February Break

Service Learning Trip

in the heart of Appalachia, West Virginia

February 16th-22nd, 2014
The mission of Catherine McAuley (the founder of the Sisters of Mercy) - educating the whole person spiritually, intellectually and morally - is instilled in each student, thus, creating a desire to help others in need as they develop as adolescents. Our goal is to provide our young women the opportunity to learn this through a unique retreat -like service immersion trip. The spirit of Catherine McAuley deepens our sense of reaching out. The spirit calls us to connect and challenge ourselves to go beyond our comfort zone and truly help those in need. We will be travelling to
Nazareth Farm,, in the heart of Appalachia in West Virginia.
